Release v0.40

This one’s mostly just bug fixes for account-related issues that are causing people grief:

  • Your e-mail address is now case insensitive. Log in with any capitalisation you like, it doesn’t matter. E-mail me (jack@youcanguess.com) if you see any account related weirdness as a result of this.
  • Activation links now work even if you accidentally leave the ‘~’ off the end.
  • Oh, I’ve pushed lair invasions slightly later into the game so people don’t get crushed before they can build up. I’m planning to revise how the invasions actually work later on when things are less hectic.
  • Further server performance tweaks.

Next update:

  • Fix vanishing lactating nipples.
  • Fix tome of hermaphrodites offering you genitalia that you already have.

    Please also fix Tome of Infestations to do… something? You should also be aware that certain piercing which normally only become available to “males” also become able to be equipped upon buying a strap, which would make it (once the tome of thorns is available) a pierced and barbed strap on.

    As a balancing issue, is there anything for mid-game (around turn 20) when it is easy to have 1,000+ mana left over?

    If your pushing back invasions further doesn’t this pretty much force those who don’t want or can’t donate to not play? The content in the trial was already extremely limited.

    I am not getting any answers on the Offbeatr. So i’m commenting this just for the sake to hopefully be able to Pledge.

    I keep getting an “An Internal Error Has Occurred.
    Error: An Internal Error Has Occurred.” everytime when i try to do any of the Pledge Amount. I just want my 15 worth Pledge. Would appreciate to get some help on this note.

    I can load, or start a new game, but I can’t delete a game already in progress.

    It’s not a big deal, but you may want a delete function available.

    Hey, I was just wondering:

    Do you have an end-game in mind? Will there be an end boss, or a non-trial time limit? Or is there a certain ‘score’ you have to hit to win? All three? Or will it be like Fen’s current game, where it goes on forever?

    Either works, but I was just curious. 🙂

      I’m still figuring out the specifics of the end game.

      What I’ll continue to do is that if you hit the end of the story, I’ll say so, but you can keep playing beyond that point if you want.

    Oh, one other thing, since this is on the topic of bug-fixing.

    You say the mana sustains the succubus, but as far as I can tell, the mana reserves never actually go down.

    Even if you hang out with no concubines since the beginning of the game, you never seem to run out of mana and have to go to the surface hungry, or hit a lose condition where you have to head into someone else’s service to get fed, or … anything.

      I actually used to have a constant drain on mana. Also the encounters’ meter full of mana was deducted from the reservoir.

      I took it out because it didn’t really have a significant effect on the middle/end-game, yet it put beginners at risk of going broke. The difficulty curve was sloping in the wrong direction.

        Here’s a though, why not have your concubines and beast (or possibly just the beasts) have upkeep costs? That might help with the excess mana. The newbies won’t have a lot of them so cost would be low.

        In a way, I can appreciate what you’re saying about the succubus Mana-consumption being hardest on beginners.

        Naturally, though, if she only eats a little, then the beginning WOULD be the hardest time for her.

        It’s your call, but I would have liked it to be there, so it could add a sense of urgency to the first few seductions.

      I dunno about upkeep on concubines and beasts. Their primary function is to produce mana, so taking it away again is kinda redundant. I suppose beasts having a positive multiplier and a negative constant is a little interesting, but we’re getting into numbers heavy territory and I don’t want to have people trying to beat off and operate a calculator simultaneously. 🙂

      Though upkeep for lair capacity upgrades and traps, that’s definitely a promising direction.

    The offbeatr mentions 20 more chance events, what does that mean? What sort of chance events are already in the game?

    I got a rare message that mentioned one of my assistants adding an extra effect once, but never since.

    Details would be lovely!

      The chance events happen at the start of a turn, when it says ‘Day N’, sort of like a random event deck in a board game. At the moment that system only has two events written for it: finding mana, and pixies eating it.

      After playing FTL, I think the event cards will also need options as well to be interesting. e.g. A stranger shows up at the lair, are they a refugee or a spy? Do you let them in?

    I keep getting a 404 error when I try to go to fleshcult.com. I wasn’t sure if this was a problem on my end or not (I can barely figure out the microwave, much less a computer.) so I figured I’d bring it up here.

      I haven’t heard from anyone else affected with this, and traffic is steady. I checked the logs for 404s, and there are 3 strange ones from about 2 hours ago for ‘cgi-bin/redirect.ha’. That’s never been part of my site.

      If that’s you, then something on your end might be tampering with your browser, so I’d check your machine for malware. If not, I have no idea what it could be.

      It appears to be a problem with Google Chrome, as I can access your site with IE just fine. Excellent game, by the way.
