Release v0.84

New stuff:

  • I’m starting to get commissions in from a new artist, Lavah! Her first contribution is finishing off the title painting (it’s based on a sketch by RJ Palmer). Hope you like it.
  • Animated meters. I’ve broken the animation into stages so that you can see the different contributions to the end state. Also, when you lose an encounter, you can see what happened to the horror meter.
  • A new character in Old Town: The Goth.
  • Redesigned the title page.
  • On mobile devices, when you’re in an encounter it defaults to scrolling past the header.
  • Typo fixes.

Known bugs:

  • Sometimes when a meter animates away from zero, it pops to the end position.
  • Animation isn’t supported on IE 8 or 9. You’ll see things jump instead.

As always, let me know if you’re seeing glitches with the new stuff.

I dont mind, but my game reset to new game.

Noticed a rather important bug. There is a one turn lag in the bars updating, i.e. I select an action, the results of which I don’t see until I select the next action. I’m running the game on Firefox 23.0.1 if it matters.

That’s one of the browsers I tested it under (for Windows at least), so I don’t think that’s a compatibility problem. Do you have Javascript enabled?

If you go to Web Developer -> Web Console, are there any errors being logged there?

      Is anyone else seeing this?

      • Anonymous says:

        Javascript is enabled.

Over a dozen turns of play, the errors were logged in the console:
        Unknown property ‘box-sizing’. Declaration dropped.
Error in parsing value for ‘width’. Declaration dropped.

    • jackoekaki says:

Hmm, I get the CSS width/box-sizing errors too, and the meters are up to date. (Though not in the Firebug add-on, so I never noticed them before now. Damnit Firebug!)

One thing you could try to verify that it really is an animation problem is that there’s an alternate meter display which isn’t animated which is only shown for narrow displays. It shows numerals instead of meters. They’ll appear if you resize the window to narrower than 500 pixels. If you count out the marks on the meter (the first mark is 1) after the animations have triggered they should be consistent with the numerical value.

      • Anonymous says:

Using the less than 500px numerical display, the numbers are up to date, while the animation still lags a turn behind.

    • jackoekaki says:

I wonder if the page is failing to load completely? The animations are scheduled to run after all the images/fonts have loaded, so if there’s one straggler they might never start. You can tell by looking at the icon in the tab: if it’s still a rotating swirl then it’s still downloading something.

This version’s pretty cool, I’ve got no bugs so far.

    Pretty awesome. 🙂
