Fleshcult outage

My database cache provider is currently having an outage. No ETA on a fix yet, but they’re replacing the machine. Again. They replaced the box I was on back in January too.

EDIT: It’s back up again. They haven’t mentioned anything about data loss, so hopefully everything is still there. In any case, the database behind the cache has your saved game as of the last time you completed an encounter. As far as I know, losing the encounter in progress would be the worst-case scenario.

Release v0.57

Mostly bug fixes and UI refinements this release. I’m also figuring out how to set up a dev server so that writers messing around in the editor can’t disrupt players on live.

Changes in this release:

  • 28 new body part descriptions from Porpentine.
  • Fixed a bug where some insert, grope and reveal nature messages got lost.
  • Reorganised building menu so that descriptions are shown for the things that you’ve built, rather than the things that you haven’t.
  • Redid Sanctum page so that it’s easier to navigate. Each tome is now a folding section.

Release v0.56

This release adds the ability to manually pair concubines and beasts by dragging and dropping in the minion list.

I learned a bit of JQuery to do it, so there’s a high probability of n00b mistakes. In principle it should work on touchscreen devices too, but so far I’ve only been able to test on a battered old iOS 4 phone. Let me know if it breaks on your device.

Sabbat

If you’re reading this, you probably enjoy games full of perverted transmogrification and Satanic naughtiness. Check out Sabbat: it’s a well-written, short and sweet Twine game that’s aimed directly at scratching those itches.

Release v0.55

RJ has finalised a couple of paintings for the lair and encounter screens. They’re looking daaaamn nice. Check it out.

Other stuff:

  • 3 new kinds of random event.
  • Internal tweaks to hopefully use fewer database connections.
  • Fixed message that wasn’t using appropriate gender.

Release v0.53

New stuff:

  • Character names contributed as OffBeatr rewards are now in the game. They’re shuffled in amongst the random names.
  • 30 more body part descriptions from Porpentine.
  • Random events can now ask the player to make a choice.
  • 1 new random event for testing choices: whether or not to send an apprentice into the flesh loom for research purposes.
  • Changed barbed strap-on to gnarled. Barbed was just too nasty.
  • Fixed a weird bug where menus related to the end of a turn would sometimes pop up while you were switching between lair tabs.

Sorry about the long delay between releases. Putting in the plumbing for random events with choices turned out to be a bit trickier than I’d planned. Next up I’ll be adding several more random events to really take advantage of the new system.

March Project Account Balance

After the OffBeatr crowdfunding campaign ended, a lot of people still wanted to contribute but couldn’t, either because they didn’t have a credit card, or they had one but it didn’t get along with OB. I set up another method of donating, and promised that I’d do updates on how much extra money I collected and what I spent it on, for transparency’s sake.

Yesterday I received the OffBeatr payout (woot!), so now’s as good a time as any to do a breakdown of how much money the project has. I’ve decided to do these monthly because weekly is just too much bookkeeping.

Trigger warning: Contains accounting. All figures are in USD.

Release v0.51

Not much to see in this release because I’ve been spending the bulk of it working on the editor, which is nearly usable. I can’t wait to let writers loose in it and see what they come up with.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed bug where minion transformation would continue even if the minion was kidnapped or killed!
  • Can’t pierce strap-ons any more.
  • Can’t have balls without a cock any more.
  • Can’t replace cock with a strap-on any more. (Now you need to get a pussy first)

Fetish Survey Results

I’ve compiled the Fetish survey results. This was open to people who contributed to the OffBeatr crowdfunding drive in January, at a level of $15 or higher.

Which transformation would you most like to see in the game?

tf_graph

The write-in results had a range of interesting ideas, the most popular of which was muscle growth (3 requests). The suggestions for living clothing, flavoured cum and being able to secrete spiderwebs also caught my eye. For now I’ll only commit to putting Nagas in the game, and leave the rest for any spare time I might have at the end of development.

What kinds of partners would you most like to see in the game?

partner_graphOK, so I’m definitely going to have to put angels in the game! I’ll have a think about what that means in world-building terms, because I never imagined Fleshcult taking place in a monotheistic world (in spite of the fact that succubi and incubi are part of the Christian mythos). I’ll figure something out.

The most popular write-in results were Amputees (3) and Bimbos (3).

Which activity would you most like to see in the game?

activity_graph

Minion breeding would be awesome. In contrast to the others it’d really make more sense as a meta-game activity, though I haven’t figured out what that will entail. Seeing as I don’t want children in the game, I’m imagining minions incubating demonic spawn of some kind.

This also had some pretty cool write ins: unbirth (3) and fucking machines!

Thanks to everybody who took the time to fill this in. It’s really helping me prioritise.

Last call for survey responses

If you’re eligible for the fetish survey ($15 pledges and up during the OffBeatr campaign) or the name survey ($30 pledges and up during the OffBeatr campaign), you need to get your answers in within the next few days.

The initial batch of forms went out to your OffBeatr e-mail address on the 1st of February. There were about a dozen people who I missed out because their payment didn’t go through until later, so I sent another batch on the 14th of February. Lately I’ve been having crappy luck actually getting e-mails delivered, so if you still haven’t received one, let me know at jack@fleshcult.com

There won’t be much visible progress with the game this week. I’m working on an editing tool to allow writers to add new messages to the sex encounters, and give them control over when the messages are displayed. I’m hoping that by allowing text to be added to a character in a free-form way, I can get more lively, reactive NPCs than if we did it in a big spreadsheet where every character has the same blanks to fill in.
